The Oak Beams have been Air Dried for a number of years. This means they have matured and the amount of moisture left in the beam has been reduced.
This will significantly reduce the amount of shrinkage in comparison from a fresh sawn or green oak beam.
There are a variety of ways to finish a beam based around shape, colour, size and wax. A finished beam could look similar to those on the right.
The process takes about 2 weeks from date of order and is accompanied by its own maintenance kit and care instructions.

Shaping is known as "adzing" pronounced "add-zing". A light adze will give a slight uneven character to the beam. As few or as many sides as you wish can be adzed.
This creates more character. More definition is applied to the corners and creates an older looking beam depending on the chosen colour.
Different amounts of adzing can be applied to different faces if needed.
This is the ultimate reclaim look.
We can add holes, artifical wood worm, wooden pegs and even old roman numerals. This colour tends to be darker than the average beam for obvious reasons.
This is the stage most customers jump into.
There are currently four colours to choose from and these can be slightly darkened using a colour wax if needed.
It is important to remember that oak is a natural product and the base colour of the timber can vary because of this.
All this aside the pictures below give a very good idea of what you can expect.
The pictures here give a very good indication as to your finished colour.
Please note: Oak is a natural material that will continue to dry once installed. Cracks may appear in the beam and existing cracks may get bigger. This is the nature of the material.
