Chimney Sweeping

Chimney sweeping is an essential part of having a stove/fire. Your chimney should be swept 1-4 times a year depending on fuel and usage. Regular sweeping of your chimney will keep your stove/fire working well and keep your home and family safe.

The modern day chimney sweep makes having your chimney swept a very quick and clean operation.

Chimney Lining

Chimneys are lined for three main reasons:

Masonry chimneys were designed for open fires. 80 – 90% of the heat created by an open fire exits through the chimney and 10-20% comes into the room. Condensation is not a problem due to the large amounts of heat traveling through the chimney.

A modern stove is much more efficient with only 15 – 25% of the heat it creates exiting through the chimney. The chimney may never reach normal operating temperature, thus allowing the gasses to condense on the inside of the flue walls creating a build up of tar.

Tar is dangerous and undesirable for a couple of reasons.

Tar is very difficult to remove, even with regular sweeping. Lining a chimney combats the problems associated with tar.

Below are some of the advantages of having your chimney lined:
