Twin Wall Insulated Prefabricated Chimney Systems
No Chimney? No Problem!
If you don't have a proper brick built chimney you can still have a real fire by using twin wall insulated flue. These are a stainless flue surrounded by insulation and finished with an outer skin of stainless.
A 6 inch flue usually has an outer diameter of around 8 inch and a 5 inch flue has an outer of around 7 inch. These flues come finished in shiny morror finish stainless steel but can be powder coated in any British Standard or RAL colour to match the colour of guttering or paintwork.
They can be placed through an external wall and up the outside of the house or they can run indoors through lower and upper ceilings. These can then be boxed in with a timber frame, plasterboarded and emulsioned/wallpapered or they can be incorporated into fitted wardrobes. We've also incorporated them into corner shelving and other such things in the past. They don't need to be unsightly and ugly.
They can be placed within 50mm of combustibles making running them through a house is fairly straight forward with minimal disruption. Very often no redecoration is required afterwards.
They're still fairly hot to the touch so can be an effective way of heating upper rooms if grills are installed to the boxing-in.

The installation below was rather tricky due to the structure of the roof with exposed timbers. A tidy finish was achieved with minimal disruption and the client was delighted. Usually the large trim plate is not required as most of the work is done from up on the roof but this was not possible in this cirumstance as the tiles could not be removed.
Left: We marked the location of the hole in the ceiling and made an inspection hole.
Right: A hole was made in the ceiling. The vertical timber removed and strengthened with a piece placed horizontally. A trim plate was manufactured and installed to cover the hole in the ceiling.
Left: The twin wall flue was taken through the roof and finished with an oval 45 degree trim plate and left ready for decoration.
